Back in March, we studied a little book by Thom Rainer called "I Am A Church Member." At the end of each chapter, there is a pledge. These pledges call us to action and commitment. It does us little good to simply fill our heads with knowledge- even if that knowledge is accurate and God-centered. God is calling us to action, not mere education.
Jesus said is this way in Matthew 7:24-27
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”The difference between these two men was what they did with the words they heard. One DID them and one did NOT. Which man are you like?
Here is the second pledge from Rainer's book:
I am a church member. I will seek to be a source of unity in my church. I know there are no perfect pastors, staff, or other church members. But neither am I. I will not be a source of gossip or dissension. One of the greatest contributions I can make is to do all I can in God's power to help keep the church in unity for the sake of the Gospel. How does recognizing that NONE of us are perfect help us maintain unity in the church?
What does the unity of the church have to do with the Gospel?
How are YOU seeking unity in the church?
